Premier, Minister and business delegation leave on Asia mission
Premier Ranj Pillai, Minister of Energy, Mines and Resources and Tourism and Culture John Streicker, and a Yukon business delegation departed today on a mission to Tokyo, Japan, and Trivandrum and New Delhi, India. The Premier and Minister met briefly with the Consul General of Japan Mr. Maruyama and Consul General of India Mr. Manish in Vancouver before their departure.
The business delegation accompanying the Premier and Minister includes:
- Dylan Soo representing the Tourism Industry Association of the Yukon;
- Kelly Milner from Screen Production Yukon Association;
- Ziad Sahid from Tech Yukon; and
- Mellisa Murray and Tiffany Eckert-Maret from the Yukon First Nations Chamber of Commerce.
All business representatives will be in Tokyo. Dylan Soo and Kelly Milner will continue to Trivandrum. Ziad Sahid will represent Tech Yukon at all locations.
The purpose of the mission is to address health and human resource challenges, promote innovation and collaboration in critical minerals and technology sectors, increase business investment in the Yukon and expand tourism from Asia. The people-to-people connections being built by industry organizations and government officials on this trip will help position the Yukon’s business community on a global stage.
The Premier is embarking on a trade mission to Tokyo, Japan, and New Delhi and Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum), India, with meetings taking place from September 11 to 19, 2023.
Minister Streicker will be joining Premier Pillai for the Tokyo portion of the trip.
The Department of Tourism and Culture has entered into a joint marketing agreement with key account tour operators, including Japan-based Hankyu Travel International Co. Ltd.
India was the top source of newcomers under the Yukon Nominee Program in 2020 through 2022 and is the second-largest source overall since the program’s launch in 2007.
Japan is the overall fourth-largest source of newcomers under the Yukon Nominee Program.
The Government of Yukon has previously conducted trade missions to the United States (2012), Germany and Switzerland (2012), Germany and the United Kingdom (2013), South Korea, China, Japan and Hong Kong (2013), and the United States and Australia (2014).
